Dear Alverno Alumna,

ait powderpuff

Are you ready for some football? This will be the third year for Alverno’s Alumnae In Training Powder Puff football game. To make this year better than ever we are encouraging alums to sign up and play along with the students.  This is your opportunity to prove that yes, women can do anything, even play (flag) football.  Are you strong, fierce and brave like Wonder Woman? Then you will fit right in with this year’s student theme for Homecoming 2010 – Superheroes!  The game will take place on Sunday, October 10th. There will be a tailgate party starting at 1:30, followed by kickoff at 3:00 p.m. To join a team or to volunteer for the event, please contact me by email at or by phone at 414-382-6070.

Interested in watching? The game is always more exciting with fans and cheerleaders, so don’t forget to mark this date on your calendar!

I look forward to seeing everyone at Homecoming in October.

Brittany Balash, Alverno Alumnae In Training Program Manager

Class of 1962 Adventure
Nine members of the class of 1962 recently took a cruise up the St. Lawrence River to celebrate their 70th birthdays. This photo was taken on the first formal night on the Holland America Maasdam cruise ship. The group spent two days in Montreal, boarded the ship on a Saturday, visited Quebec City, Prince Edward Island, Sydney, Halifax, Bar Harbor, and ended in Boston. The ’62 group has been traveling together for 30 years.

Bill McEachern’s  Retirement Party

Bill McEachern
The Inaugural MBA Class of 2008 held a retirement party for MBA Program Director Bill McEachern at the home of Penn Engebose and Peg Palmer on Saturday, July 17, 2010. Great conversation, delicious food and cold beverages were followed by a very special presentation for Bill. The group continued a fond tradition that Bill had established during their time together. At the beginning of each class he passed around a special stone which was inscribed with a Tibetan saying “om mani padme hung” and whoever held the rock had permission to speak. It was a ritual repeated week after week in all of Bill’s MGT 620 classes. This time, class was held in the living room of the Engebose/Palmer home and each member of the class shared with Bill and with one another their favorite “Bill memory” and what he gave to each of us. Bill’s wife of forty years, Chris, whole-heartedly joined in the accolades for this special guy. There were tears and laughter but mostly our hearts were full.

Bill was presented with two gifts – a print of the inaugural class as owners of Costco Company which was of significance because it was a particularly challenging case study for Bill and the class. Additionally, just before graduation a class member had given each member of the inaugural class a Brian Andreas print which had special meaning. The class presented the same print to Bill because he is “one of us”, the title of the print:

“Someday, the light will shine like a sun through my skin & they will say, What have you done with your life? & though there are many moments I think I will remember, in the end, I will be proud to say, I was one of us.”

It's booked, and we could tell you who they are, but did you know who Dengue Fever, Rodrigo y Gabriela, 17 Hippies, Dobet Gnahore, and Mucca Pazza were before you saw them at Global Union? That's what I thought.

One thing's for certain -- with that kind of track record, we're feeling the heat to exceed your highest expectations. Because let's face it -- how many other times during the year does Milwaukee become the red hot epicenter of the universe?

As always, Global Union is a FREE festival and goes on rain or shine.
