Dear Alverno Alumna,
One of the most wonderful resources of Alverno has always been our alumnae. When admissions asked for the opportunity to connect with alums, I knew it would be a natural partnership. Please read on to see how you can help in the recruitment process. As always, we thank you for your continued support.

A Message from Admissions
We know that one of the largest segments of Alverno on the Weekend students comes to us from someone who has referred them. The best recruiters are those who have experienced Alverno first-hand – our alums. Because of that, I’d like to ask you to spread the word about Alverno on the Weekend!
There are a couple of opportunities that can be passed along to potential weekend students, those adult women who are looking to earn their undergraduate degrees:
Information Session for women interested in Alverno on the Weekend – Wednesday, March 31, 6:00 p.m.
Undergraduate Open House – Saturday, April 17, 9:30 a.m.
If you know of a prospective student who would like to come to Open House and stay and have lunch with a current weekend student, please let Admissions know (email@example.com.) Our Web site has quite a bit of information about Alverno on the Weekend that would be interesting to women looking to find out more. Visit alverno.edu/yourpower. Please pass the word!
“Every girl wants a crown!” Reigning Miss Alverno Samantha Jo Meyer will be on hand to help crown her successor on March 30th but she’s quick to point out that the Miss Alverno crown is not just any crown. Offering no swimsuit categories, but instead using the familiar eight abilities, Alverno students are challenged to establish a platform based on a cause they support. This special event allows students to not only expand their use of Alverno’s abilities but also to gain confidence speaking in front of a crowd, earn prize money for books, and have a great evening!
Samantha Jo is a Secondary Education Major with a History Support, who will be graduating in December, 2011. As Miss Alverno, Samantha Jo has spent the past year making appearances at various college functions and has found this experience made her a familiar face to other Alverno community members, giving her the opportunity to meet many new people. Her favorite part of her Miss Alverno reign was her Homecoming experience. Samantha Jo participated in all of the events throughout Homecoming weekend and enjoyed the opportunity to meet alumnae and explain exactly what Miss Alverno was all about. Samantha Jo is already looking forward to her first Homecoming as an alumna, where she will have the opportunity to mingle with that year’s Miss Alverno.
Mark your calendars for the 3rd annual Miss Alverno contest, held Tuesday, March 30, 2010, at 7:00 p.m. in the Mug (basement of Austin Hall). Each contestant will perform and speak in front of a crowd, giving her the chance to gain confidence in herself, and also to support an organization important to her. Come support current students as they compete for the 2010-11 Miss Alverno title!

A Letter from A.C.T.S. Committee Interns
Dear Alverno College Alumnae,
First, let us introduce ourselves: Abigail Sherman, environmental science major, and Emily Miller, chemistry major. We are both juniors graduating next spring. This semester, we have been privileged to work on-campus as interns for the A.C.T.S. (Alverno Commits to Sustainability) committee. In recognition of the 40th Anniversary of Earth Day, we have planned several activities and events on campus.
So how do you fit in to all of this? We are inviting you to participate in a panel discussion to highlight your work experiences and how sustainability relates to your current career. Click here to read more.
Holocaust Survivor to Speak at Alverno
This event is free and open to the public, and no R.S.V.P. is necessary. Contact Sue DaBaco at firstname.lastname@example.org with any questions.
Since 2002, Alverno College has held annual remembrance services for Yom HaShoah, established as a memorial day for the Holocaust. This year’s service will feature Holocaust survivor Tauba Biterman, and will be held in the TLTC Conference Center at noon on Wednesday, April 28th. Biterman was first hidden, then passed as a German from the Black Forest. She survived by staying on the move, working when she could get work, and staying alert to the suspicions and accusations of Poles and Ukrainians who “always looked for Jews and hunted us out.” Her many harrowing experiences included having guns held to her head to coerce her into confessing that she was a Jew. “I was very strong and life was precious. I didn’t want to die from a bullet.”
Director of RCWG Interviewed on Milwaukee Public Radio
Kate Masley, the director of the Alverno College Research Center for Women and Girls, was interviewed on Milwaukee Public Radio's Lake Effect program (WUWM). Masley discussed in-depth how the Center plans to update the college’s 2007 report on the Status of Women and Girls in Wisconsin during its official grand opening, April 7 - 13, among many other exciting plans.
