Dear Alumnae,
My finest hour was becoming an Alverno alumna in May of 1999. A very close second was becoming your Alumnae Association President 10 years later in June 2009! I consider my Alverno education and this opportunity to serve our beloved alma mater as defining moments in my life. Like my Alverno education, leading the Alumnae Board for the past two years has transformed me.

It has been an honor to serve among these extraordinary Alverno women with such a passion for our beloved alma mater and a commitment to truly making a difference in the world. I thank our 2009/2010 board members for your role in creating our clear visions for the future of the Alumnae Association and your enthusiasm for the rewarding work that has resulted from our new College Engagement, Community Engagement and Governance Committees.

This month I turn the leadership reins over to your new Alumnae Association President Erica Gumieny '00. Erica's vibrant personality, strong community connections and expertise in empowering others to lead and succeed will bring a rich dimension to our work and drive our results as an Association. Erica will lead your Alumnae Association in our efforts to reconnect with you to capture the imagination of your brilliant Alverno mind and build upon the love you have in your heart for this experience that transformed your life.

This month we also celebrate Alumnae Association Board Member Rose Spang '62 being named a Milwaukee Business Journal Woman of Influence. Rose is the essence of what it means to live every moment of every day as an opportunity to make a connection on behalf of our beloved Alma Mater, Alverno College!

The Alverno Alumnae Relations office is again partnering with Harris Publications to create an updated Alumnae Directory in time for our 125th anniversary in 2012. Alumnae will be receiving informational mailings in the coming weeks. Harris has provided this service to the college and our alumnae for the past several decades, and in this edition will be providing additional historic and informational pages in honor of our 125th anniversary celebration. Congratulations, May Graduates!

Alverno College Launches Family Nurse Practitioner Specialization
Alverno College is proud to announce the expansion of its Master of Science in Nursing program by launching a new Family Nurse Practitioner track in fall of 2011. The new degree, which is open to women and men, marks the sixth master's degree program or licensure-to-master's specialization developed by the college in the last five years. "Advanced practice registered nurses who provide primary care are in high demand, and Alverno College is responding to a local and regional need," said Patricia Schroeder, dean of Alverno College's School of Nursing. "In addition to the growing need for primary care, family nurse practitioners achieve positive clinical outcomes and great consumer satisfaction. Join us on campus for the Alumnae Business Showcase during Homecoming Weekend! Held during the student lunch break from 11:00 a.m. - 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, October 8th, this popular event allows you to connect with fellow entrepreneurs and meet potential customers as we celebrate Homecoming.
