Dear Alverno Alumna,
What do you get when you combine the eight Alverno abilities, seven outstanding Alverno students, and five fabulous judges? Miss Alverno 2011!
The Miss Alverno competition is a magical evening during which Alverno students demonstrate how they use the eight abilities outside of a classroom setting. Over the past four years, Miss Alverno has grown to be an entertaining and inspiring part of the Alverno experience. But don’t just take my word for it – experience it for yourself! Miss Alverno 2011 will take place on Wednesday, April 6th from 7:30 – 10:00 p.m. in the Mug Coffeehouse located in Austin Hall. This year’s contestants are Margaret Childs, Rachel Molloy, Arika Ostrowski, Cassie Rincon, Carly Schneider, Holly Turpin, and Vanessa Vasquez. This is a great opportunity to support current Alverno students, as well as your fellow alums who have volunteered to be our fabulous judges: Lois Koepke ’91, founder of the Bucks Energee! Dance Team; Caitlin Morral ’08, “Road Warrior” Traffic Reporter on TMJ4; and Diane Charno ’93, Interactive Strategist for Ascedia and Alverno College Alumnae Board member.
Be sure to mark your calendars for this unforgettable event!

Allen Named to All-NAC First Team for Second Time
The Northern Athletics Conference announced the awards for the 2010-11 women's basketball season and Alverno College's Gabby Allen (Milwaukee/Bay View) was named to the All-NAC First Team for the second-straight season.
Allen was the Inferno's leading scorer for the second-consecutive year as she posted 14.0 points a game in her senior season, eighth-best in the conference. The point guard was also eighth in the league in blocks per game with 22 swats in 25 games. She led the team with 2.4 assists per game and also snagged 4.4 rebounds per game, while shooting a career-best 72 percent from the free-throw line.
"It's great respect for Gabby and our program," Alverno head coach Brad Duckworth said. "Certainly every opponent had to find number 12 and try to get her stopped. She had a great senior season, and I know she would trade the award for a chance to play in the tournament; she was that kind of player. I'm proud of her, and it's a great honor to be a two-time all-conference player."
Allen scored a career-high 28 points in a February 10 victory at Edgewood, where she also became the school's all-time leading scorer. She finished her career with 1,286 points, and is also tops in the Alverno record book in field goals made (500), second in free throws made (241) and blocked shots (86), and fourth in assists (190) and steals (122).
