Assistant Director of Alumnae Relations
Last week Assistant Professor of History and Director of Asian Studies Jodi Eastberg connected current students with 2009 alum Megan Stewart, who is presently teaching English in Taiyuan in Shanxi, China. Using Skype, the students were able to talk with Megan about her experience as an American living in China. Jodi's HUM150, or Introduction to the Humanities, course has focused on the theme "China and the West." Students have spent the semester learning about the long history of European and American relations with China through the lenses of diplomacy, missionaries, popular culture, and trade. This experience gave current students a chance to connect with an alum who has been living in China for two years and to connect her experiences with their learning in the classroom. Megan reported that she uses her Alverno abilities "daily" while enjoying the complexities of living outside the United States.

Please help spread the word about this wonderful opportunity to educate more young women in math and science! The program will begin this upcoming fall and is free of charge. Inferno Sluggers Break School Home Run Record
The 2011 Alverno College softball team broke the program's single-season home run record on Monday, April 25, as a pair of rookies connected for the Inferno's ninth and 10th long-balls of the season.
The Inferno came into the doubleheader versus Rockford College with eight home runs on the season, which had tied the record set by last season's squad.
Freshman outfielder Ashleigh Sagat (New Berlin, Wis./Eisenhower) hit her second homer of the season in game one, a 12-6 victory, while freshman pitcher/first baseman Emily Snell (Denmark, Wis.) hit her second home run of the season in game two's 10-7 loss.
Sophomore catcher Stef Wilmore (Elkhart, Ind.) leads the team with three homers, freshman shortstop Chelsea Gulbronson (Milwaukee/Pius) has two and sophomore third baseman Natalie Petrie (Franklin, Wis.) has one.
The Inferno have six more chances to add to the total with six regular season games remaining in the 2011 season.
