Global Union 2011 - Volunteer Now!
Global Union happens because of the great folks who generously volunteer their time, talents and energy. For those of you who have never been there, the video on the Alverno Presents homepage will give you a taste. We urgently need your help on Saturday, September 17th and Sunday, September 18th with Hospitality, 11 a.m.-6 p.m. (helping cater to the artists back stage), Front of House, 11 a.m.-5 p.m. (greeting people, collecting donations), and Security, 11 a.m.-5 p.m. (helping enforce the backstage boundary). We'll also need lots of help with Sunday night clean-up, to make sure that Humboldt Park is as beautiful as it was before the festival. Because your time and presence mean a lot to us, if you volunteer for two days of the festival, or for clean-up on Sunday evening, we will offer you TWO FREE tickets to any Alverno Presents performance this season. Please contact firstname.lastname@example.org at the box office if you would like to volunteer for the first time, or resume a volunteer role that you have performed in the past seasons.
Attention, Nursing Alumnae
Hispanic Nurses of Alverno, a new student group on campus, strives to offer guidance, support, and resources to Hispanic nursing students. One way in which we hope to achieve this goal is by requesting support from our alumnae. We are committed to helping Hispanic women transition from students to professional nurses while maintaining an appreciation for their culture. We are asking that alumnae join our group as mentors to help facilitate Hispanic Nurses of Alverno. The nursing profession is lacking Spanish-speaking men and women to help educate the Latino population who is plagued with conditions like diabetes, heart and kidney disease, and obesity. Please consider volunteering a small portion of your time as a mentor to our future Alverno Hispanic nurses. If interested, please contact Sarah Arvelo at email@example.com or send us a message via our Hispanic Nurses of Alverno Facebook page.
Sorgi, Kulig Join Alverno Basketball Staff
The Alverno College Athletics Department has announced the additions of Lisa Sorgi and Cherie Kulig as assistant coaches on the basketball staff. Sorgi, one of the most prolific players in Alverno basketball history, returns to her alma mater after graduating in 2010 with a degree in political science, and Kulig is a recent graduate of Saint Mary's University in Winona, Minn., where she received her degree in sports management and accounting. Both Sorgi and Kulig are currently attending graduate courses at Alverno working on their master's degrees. Last season the Inferno (11-14, 8-10 Northern) finished tied for fourth place in the talented north division, missing out on the postseason tournament by virtue of a tiebreaker. Alverno opens the 2011-12 season on Nov. 15, hosting Mt. Mary College. Click here to read more.
