The college is buzzing with excitement as we celebrate the 125th anniversary of Alverno. So many activities and ways for your to reengage! Be sure to check out www.alverno.edu/125. This anniversary is more than just a celebration, it's a way to honor the work that Alverno students, alumnae, faculty and staff do in areas of service throughout or community. This is why we have created an initiative called "Caring Counts" for this anniversary year. The goal of "Caring Counts" is to record 125,000 hours of volunteer activity in 2012. Alverno women and men make a difference every day in our community and our world. This has been the case ever since the first six students began at Alverno College in 1887 and will continue to be so in many years to come. If you haven't been back to Alverno, this is the year to do it. Reach out to your Alumnae Department and find out how you can make a difference today.

Jesse Harrison-Noonan '09
"Life is for service" could be Jesse Harrison-Noonan's motto. She has been committed to service since she was a child. And it is Jesse's commitment to service which drew her to Alverno College where she majored in Psychology with a support in Spanish and Global Studies.
Service to others also inspired her to spend several weeks in Tanzania through the eco-tourism and volunteering group Afrishare Solutions. With her mother, Jesse spent several weeks volunteering at Pasua Primary, an elementary school in the town of Moshi. At Pasua, Jesse taught English, classroom management and the importance of respecting the environment. Click here to read more.

Free Screening of Miss Representation
Thursday, February 16, 2012
Miss Representation (90 minute documentary) uncovers a glaring reality we live with every day but fail to see. Written and directed by Jennifer Siebel Newsom, the film exposes how mainstream media contributes to the under-representation of women in positions of power and influence in America. The film challenges the media’s limited and often disparaging portrayals of women and girls, making it difficult for women to achieve leadership positions and for average women to feel empowered. Stories from teenage girls, along with provocative interviews build momentum and provide startling facts and statistics. Bring your friends and family to this free screening and discussion.
