Graduate News

June 2013 Issue

Dear ,

Congratulations, May Graduates!
40 Master's students and  171 undergraduate students earned their degrees on May 17 and 18, 2013. The Alumnae Office would like to extend our most sincere congratulations to these newest Alverno alums!

Warm regards,

Mary Frieseke '93,'10
Director of Alumnae Relations

Kim Muench '89
Assistant Director of Alumnae Relations

Alverno is thrilled to announce the recent launch of Alverno Magazine Online,, to supplement the College's two annual print editions.

This month's Alumnae Spotlight story is from the online magazine.

The "Bestowing of the Kente" ceremony at Alverno College was re-established thanks to the dedication and passion of Adekola Adedapo '10. Adedapo's mother raised her to leave a place better than she found it. While she may have meant for her daughter to be a good house guest, Adedapo has applied the sage advice with a global perspective. After all, Adedapo is an Alverno alumna and the program coordinator of the Cultural Education Center on campus. Click here to read the entire story.

A Message from Admissions: Wisconsin Private College Week
You know that your education at Alverno was special. You know that being in classes of 20 or less – or having your professors' personal cell phone numbers – is unheard of at many other schools. You know that the kind of personal, specialized attention, teaching, and guidance that you got from faculty and staff was unique.

And you know that you are forever changed because of your time at Alverno. Why keep that transformation to yourself? Why not share your experience? Why not let the next generation of students know just why a private, liberal arts education is worthwhile?

Alverno is participating in Wisconsin's Private College Week, from July 8th – 13th, and we hope you will encourage the young women in your lives to attend. For more information about the events and activities we are offering, visit the landing page:

Survey Sent to December 2012 Grads
If you graduated in the class of December 2012, be on the lookout for a survey that the Career Education Center recently mailed and emailed to you. The survey provides you with the opportunity to share your post-graduation career activities (e.g. job, grad school, long-term service opportunity, etc.) and indicate if you need any career assistance. Your response will help inform current and prospective students about the diverse career opportunities that are available to Alverno graduates. Questions? Contact the CEC at 414-382-6010.

Cleaning Out Your Closets This Summer? Donate Your Old Work Clothes to the Alverno Rack!
The Career Education Center (CEC) will be collecting gently used professional clothing items all summer long, in preparation for Dress to Impress for Less on September 24th. During the event, students can find and take away your generously donated clothing from the Alverno Rack (currently known as Alumnae Hall) to help them get a start on their professional wardrobes for internships, job interviews, and the early days of their careers. Items we are seeking include:

  • suits
  • blazers
  • tailored pants, skirts and dresses
  • dress shirts and tops

You can drop off your donations in the CEC (LA 125), during our summer office hours, from NOW until Friday, September 20th. Please bring the ready to wear garments on hangers, if possible.

Dress to Impress for Less is hosted each fall and spring by Alverno's Advising, Career Education, and Internship Offices to help students on a tight budget build a professional wardrobe. If you have any questions, please contact the CEC at 414-382-6010.
