ART AT ALVERNO COLLEGE
IS NOT JUST BUSINESS AS USUAL.

While you will experience top quality training in a variety of studio areas foundational to the art discipline, the differences between our programs and other schools are significant.

Art Courses are designed to guide students in making art from the perspective of their future careers. You will learn not only about studio art, but how educators, studio artists, and those who use visual art therapeutically across cultures have differing creative concerns.

Art Course sequences are flexible and responsive to student interests, supporting intensive study in areas identified by the student at advanced levels. From Graphic Design, Animation, and iMovie to Encaustic Painting, Artists Books, or Art Therapy students select from a menu of regularly updated and relevant learning experiences.

Art Sequences are developmental, allowing each student to continuously build upon a solid foundation. Whether the focus is Education, Studio, or Therapeutic Art students experience developmental content in foundations and electives courses, the history of art and cultures, and professional ethics and methods.

ART AT ALVERNO IS GLOBAL IN FOCUS: ALL ART MAJORS ARE ENCOURAGED TO TAKE ADVANTAGE OF THE MANY INTERNATIONAL STUDY OPPORTUNITIES.

ALVERNO COLLEGE ART Courses integrate interdisciplinary abilities such as problem solving and analysis with the organizing frameworks of art - which encompass technical and design concerns as well as interpreting the components of the creative process.

Intuitive Problem Solving asks students to explore personal contexts of creativity.

Analytic Problem Solving includes utilizing art across time & cultures as influence and applying visual systems to analyze formal choices.

Kinesthetic Problem Solving allows for intensive experimentation with tools, materials, and processes.

Collaborative Problem Solving supports the creative efforts of groups and community-based installations.

ART AT ALVERNO SUPPORTS THE DEVELOPMENT OF THE STUDENT’S PERSONAL VOICE REGARDING THE HISTORY OF ART AND ITS RELATIONSHIP TO ART MAKING.

ART AT ALVERNO COLLEGE develops specialized professional skills appropriate to each major.

Art Education and Therapy students complete a series of developmental FIELD PLACEMENTS prior to the Senior level Professional Semester which provide breadth and depth of experience toward developing the abilities necessary for professional competence.

Studio majors work across disciplines developing abilities to communicate effectively in various contexts, collaborate with other professionals, and to creatively envision how their art can impact the broader community. Studio majors apply this learning in professional settings through the INTERNSHIP program.

ART AT ALVERNO OFFERS UNIQUE ASSESSMENT OPPORTUNITIES, PRACTICAL ARTS MANAGEMENT SKILLS, AND THE FACILITATION OF ARTS ACTIVITIES FOR LARGE GROUPS.

Students in all four visual art majors work together with faculty in planning and facilitating valuable learning experiences such as midsemester assessments, guest artist residencies, international collaborations, and other community arts events.
