What I do: Kindergarten Teacher at Salam School- I love my school. I enjoy learning about my families and the Islamic Culture is so fascinating.
How I got my job: My well prepared resume and interview landed me the job at Salam School. The career center was very dedicated to me and helped me prepare the best resume. The advice and time that Amy gave to me was well worth my time.
How I use my Alverno education: I am working in the field that I went to school for. I graduated wanting to teach kindergarten and I am. The education department taught me so much about teaching, reading, and writing and the different stages that children go through. I left Alverno very confident and excited to begin another major milestone in my life. I am still learning everyday from the children and my peers. Collaboration is the best way to share and create even more ideas.
How I define career success: Career Success to me is being happy. If I can wake up every morning and enjoy what I do, then that is success to me. It's not about the money because if I was to go to a job that paid well but I didn't enjoy it then I would be mentally miserable. My three children and husband would not enjoy that in our house.
Tips from the field: Keep an open mind and be very patient. Things will work out the way we want them to, sometimes it might take longer. Also, collaboration with everyone is another learning opportunity. Utilize your mentor—that is what they are for. Don't procrastinate, especially when creating your portfolio for PI34. Stay organized, use a file cabinet, and label things so you can recall them again. Also use the resources you have. You don't have to spend a fortune to be a good teacher. Remember to remain flexible and positive and enjoy your new beginning.
