What about Alverno's Library?
The Alverno College library, located in the north wing
of the Liberal Arts building, houses over 120,000 items in many formats
(e.g., books, videos, CDs, etc.,) and
over
1,000 journal titles. An academic library, its primary mission is to
support the educational goals of the college and to collect scholarly
and academic works. You are more likely to find essays by Carl Jung
than novels by Danielle Steele on its shelves.
Materials are housed in several different areas. The main or general
collection ( the stacks) contains the librarys largest
collection of books, periodicals, audiovisuals, etc., on a wide variety of
subjects. These materials can be checked out (or
circulated)
to library patrons. The stacks, consisting of four floors are located adjacent
to the reference room.
The reference room contains both materials and people you
can REFER to for help. The reference collection includes different
types of print materials like atlases, almanacs, maps, encyclopedias
and more. Reference librarians and students alike refer to these materials
when they need to look up specific pieces of information (e.g., the
height of the Sears Tower in Chicago). Reference librarians are available
to help you locate the information you need (including information
not relating to class assignments!!). They are expert researchers and
can help you become more confident using the library and its resources
The Fine Arts Lab (or FAL) is another collection in the library.
The FAL holds the librarys collection of sound recordings, musical
scores and art slides along with audiovisual equipment.
The TMC or the Teaching Materials Center features the librarys
collection of childrens literature as well as materials to support the
colleges Education curriculum (e.g., teaching materials).
The Archives houses the institutional records of the college that come
in various formats (paper, photographs, microforms and videotapes). These materials
have historical value and are unique to Alverno. The Archives is located in
the Corona building in room B8.
