| Gradebooks, Assignments, and Worksheets Oh My! (Intermediate Users) Sr. Christine Stoller, Silver Lake College, Dawn Fell, Mount Mary College, Nancy Athanasiou, Alverno College Instructors will utilize a course management system to organize or increase the accessibility of course materials for learners in traditional, web-centric or hybrid, and on-line courses. Educator by UCompass provides special features to evaluate student work: Assignments, GradeBuilder, and Workload. The Assignment feature enables the instructor to facilitate learning through assignments not automatically scored by the course management system. The GradeBuilder tool tracks and displays all evaluation objects that contribute to a student's course grade. The Workload area assists students and instructors in organizing current tasks. This conference session will provide an overview, discussion of features and options, and time to work with these tools. |
|
| Improving Communications in the Digital World (Advanced Users) Sr. Linda Bos, Mount Mary College One of the drawbacks to online education is that it is dependent on text. This is a limitation for courses that are dependent on the spoken language. Additionally, students do not have the opportunity to develop their oral skills. Faculty does not have the ability to give spoken commentary, which can be more effective than text. Using the audio tool feature of Educator, these limitations can be overcome. Participants will learn to create messages that can be inserted into their courses. They will also experiment with assignments to spark ideas on using this tool to improve pedagogy. Examples include students giving speeches, dialogue in a foreign language, directions for an assignment, and providing commentary on an assignment. |
