  • Electronic Cultural Atlas Initiative (ECAI)
    This site is an international project to develop and distribute digital data on historical and archaeological resources. It is managed by the International and Area Studies department at the University of California-Berkeley. Useful as a tool for visualizing and analyzing historical and cultural phenomena, it has a special module on the damage done to Iraqi antiquities during the Iraq War of 2003.

    National Geographic Society's electronic maps web site acts as a historical and cultural atlas with Dynamic Maps and Flags and Facts for over 190 independent nations, plus U.S. states and Canadian provinces. There are also maps related to current news stories and links to more map sites.

  • MapQuest
    This travel site provides free access to driving directions (door to door or city to city) between any two points in the U.S. and Canada. It also can provide a map, given an address, in either country. Since the maps can be sized, users can get an overview of an area or city, or see specific streets within a city.

  • nationalatlas.gov
    The National Atlas is the product of the U.S. Geological Service’s coordination of geographically oriented data from more than 20 federal agencies. It portrays a wide range of culture and physical phenomena, including information on health, the environment, demography, agriculture, climate and geology. Of special note is the custom mapping tool, MapMaker, which allows users to create custom maps of any area in the U.S. at any scale.
