Preparing for Medical, Dental, Veterinary, Pharmacy, or Physician's
Assistant School
If you plan to attend a professional school once you complete your
undergraduate work, but are concerned about gaining admission because
you have heard how tough it is to be accepted, this website offers
some information that will prove to be helpful in easing those concerns.
Alverno's Pre-Health Professional Studies program is a combination
of select courses, pre-health professional advising, relevant opportunities
off campus, and peer support programs. Your advisor will guide you
in selecting the courses most useful to your professional plans.
She will help you navigate the admission test procedures and the
application process. With her help, you will connect with Alverno
alumnae working in your professional area.
You will also participate in Alverno's internship program, which
puts you in contact with faculty and students at area professional
schools. Through your internship, you may work in medically oriented
laboratories and clinics in the area, which will give you the practical
and applied preparation that many undergraduates lack when entering
professional schools.
Also, an Alverno organization for pre-health professional students
provides you with peer support through the complete preparation
and application process.
The courses you take in the Pre-Health Professional Program combine
the liberal arts and sciences to provide you with the knowledge
base and abilities valued by professional schools. These courses
include the ability to analyze keenly, think critically to solve
problems both independently and as part of a team, and communicate
clearly and convincingly. Small classes, close contact with instructors,
and opportunities to do research projects give you an advantage
in developing these abilities.
